Research Scholarships 2008


The University of Nottingham celebrates its international research activity with the following awards for new students registering on Research programmes at The University of Nottingham in September 2008. The Dean’s scholarships cover the full tuition fee and a living expenses allowance of £700 per month for up to 3-years full time study at The University of Nottingham, subject to satisfactory progress, in the following areas:

Chemical, Environmental and Mining Engineering

•Use of rheometry to understand pore nucleation, growth and coalesence during coal carbonisation
•Surface modification of cellulose nanoparticles with polymer brushes
•Phase behaviour and particle transport in model biomembranes: understanding complex materials in complex environments

Civil Engineering

•Mechanics of structures, environmental fluids, geomaterials and pavement materials
•Construction Management
•Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

•Power Electronics, Machines and Control Group - Power Electronic System Applications -
•Applied Optics Group - Optical Engineering applied to Biosicences
•George Green Institute for Electromagnetics - Electromagnetics Research
•Photonic and Radio Frequency Engineering Group - High Power Laser Devices

Mechanical Materials and Manufacturing Engineering

How to apply

In order to apply for one of these scholarships you must

•be holding a conditional or unconditional offer of a place on a full time Research degree programme at the University of Nottingham from September 2008 in one of the above areas

•complete our online application form at
http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/international/_online_forms/scholarships/application_page.php

•submit your application by 18 April 2008

Finding out if your application has been successful
•a decision on your application will be made by a panel of University staff

•a member of staff from the University will contact you by email within 6 weeks of the closing date to confirm the outcome of your application

•if you are successful, you will also receive a letter confirming the details of your scholarship

20 x ORS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
For students classified as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes – any subject area

Minimum of 3 x DOROTHY HODGKIN SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
For students classified as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes – subject area and nationality to be defined at a later stage, full tuition fee and subsistence
