Call for nomination of delegates to the General Assembly

Dear EMA members,

The Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association (EMA) would like to invite one representative per Erasmus Mundus Master Course (EMMC) to attend its annual General Assembly taking place in Perugia, Italy, on June 6th and 7th 2008. To allow for a fair representation of alumni and students at the General Assembly, the Steering Committee has decided the following:

The EMMCs accredited in 2004 or 2005 will send an alumnus, or someone who will graduate soon;
The EMMCs accredited in 2006 and 2007 will send a current student.
You can find an overview of the EMMCs and the year of their accreditation here.
Delegates to EMA's General Assembly act as representatives of their EMMC. The position comes with the following privileges and obligations, among others:

Actively participate in the General Assembly's annual meeting
Participate in the work of EMA Service Teams. At present EMA runs Service Teams that focus on supporting the Association in the following fields: Policy, IT, Newsletter, Magazine, Promotion, Conferences and Jobs
Seek knowledge as to the current problems, wishes and needs of the students and alumni of the delegate’s own EMMC, and to communicate these to the Association
Provide overall support to the projects of the Association
Contribute to the preparation of the Association's Newsletter and Magazine
The advertised position is of voluntary nature and does not come with a salary.
There is no restriction with respect to nationality of the nominee. Current GA delegates interested in committing to another term are welcome. Further requirements can be found in the attached job description. The GA delegate would need to travel to Italy on Thursday June 5th, and will return on Sunday June 8th, 2008. Accommodation and travel costs will all be provided for, as some of the meals. An extension of the travel dates is possible if you wish to stay in Italy longer, but accommodation is only provided for these three nights.

We have sent a request for nominating a representative to the Course Coordinators of each EMMC. They are responsible for sending a delegate to the EMA GA. If you would like to be considered for this position, and you fulfill the requirements above and in the attachment, please contact your course coordinator as soon as possible. The deadline for nominating a GA delegate is April 29th.

We have requested that the Course Coordinators nominate the delegate based on a student election rather than a selection process. Furthermore, they have been informed that we encourage you, the members of the EMA, to contact your Course Coordinator if you would be interested in becoming GA delegate. If you are doing an EMMC that will send a current student, please stimulate student elections within your EMMC. Send this email to all your classmates, and encourage them to sign up. Only EMA members can apply; membership of the EMA is free, and signing on is just a few mouse clicks away. See www.em-a.eu for more information.

For the EMMCs that need to send an alumnus, elections will be very hard to organise for the Course Coordinators, and we have not requested that of them. We are looking into other procedures for coming years to solve this issue. Again, please forward this request to as many of your classmates as possible.

Upon receipt of the nominee's name by the Course Coordinator, we will contact the prospective delegate directly and provide him/her with more information about how best to prepare for the General Assembly, and how to go about travel arrangements.

We hope to see you in Perugia on June 6th!

Kind regards,

Hanneke A. Luth
